Non-Permanent Upgrades You Can Give Your Rental Property

November 22nd, 2017

real estate in the city

One of the worst thing about renting properties is that it’s almost impossible to make them feel like home. You might not own your house, but that doesn’t mean you don’t want to be comfortable in it. As a renter, you can’t exactly take down a wall, paint the walls, upgrade the cabinets, or drill holes in the walls, basically no individuality. They are a few easy upgrades to make your rental feel more like “home, sweet home”.

Even though these are easy fixes, be sure to ask your landlord, before starting a project. It’s not worth risking your deposit over something small and easily avoidable.

1.Easy to remove decoration

Adding decoration to your rooms is the fastest way to give a life to your house just by adding some colors. You can put framed pictures, photos or favourite motivational quotes on the shelves. You can even place little keepsakes, with sentimental value to you such as boxes, cards, and souvenirs. Having these things around you can affect your mood positively.

2.Indoor herb garden

How pleasant it could be to have a small herb garden in your kitchen, where you can cook your favourite meals. Fresh herbs will make your food even more delicious. They will give life to your kitchen. You don’t need anything special or expensive to plan this garden. You need to find the spot with the most natural lighting. If possible, place them in a spot near windows where they can get at least 5-6 hours of sunlight. Plant the herbs in a pot, cans or even plastic bottles.

3.Change the lighting

Good lighting in your house can completely brighten up your life. In most leaseholds, the light is faint and darkened. Change bulbs with whiter and brighter light source. Light the dark corners of your house – wardrobes, shelves, cabinets. Put candles or small, beautiful lamps on them to make them more impressive. You can also add reflective objects like mirrors to make the light jumping around the room.

4.Invest in beautiful carpets

You can change the entire look of a room by just adding a carpet or a rug. You can dress up the whole floor from wall-to-wall or add smaller one to amplify a specific area. Just pick a color or a pattern from your room. Rugs come in many different sizes and texture. You should consider the type of room you want to upgrade with carpet.

5.Dress up your windows

Proper window treatment is necessary for privacy and light control. But it can also be the best way to add color and pattern to your room. Uncovered windows can look tedious. You can dress them up with curtains or blinds. This way you will make the whole room to look cozy.

6. Cover the switches and the plugs

Having switches and plugs are a must in every room. But let’s admit it, even when we complain they’re not enough we still want them to become invisible. When installing tech like golf simulators and entertainment systems that come with heavy cabling, you can make them disappear by painting them the same color as your walls.

If you are planning something bigger, you can speak to your landowner about the changes you intend to make. He might surprise you, by saying yes and even help you execute a renovation project, especially if you’re planning to stay there a while.
